Welcome to my blog. I write about things that come up or interest me. I hope you find some of it interesting, strange, or even relatable.

Whole Grains

Whole Grains

My grain mill is most likely one of my favorite kitchen appliances. It makes great flour to create delicious baked goods, packed with nutrition, all out of bulk purchased grains. Fresh ground grains have a delicious taste compared to store-bought whole-wheat flour. Highly, highly recommend grinding your own grains if you can manage to get your hands on a mill.

The grains can be purchased in bulk (example below), which makes it as low waste and inexpensive as possible. I have purchased the grains from Great River, but mainly go through Azure now. I love Azures prices and the flavor is spot on. Most simple and delicious bread recipes only require flour, salt, yeast, water, and time.

Besides hard and soft wheat varieties, I also grind oats and rye. There are so many recipes that can easily use fresh ground flour, instead of the storebought alternative. It’s a simple way to reduce packaging and extra ingredients I can happily live without in my food. Healthier, lower waste, and less cost. A win win in my book.
