Clean Feel - Hair
Since diving into a more low waste lifestyle, I also changed my shower routine. First I used up everything I had in the house, from hotel soaps, to that bottle of conditioner I just never really liked. I wanted to make sure that I used up what I had before venturing out and purchasing anything new.
But after a month or two, that day had come and I needed a new product to keep my hair and body clean. Since I am not one to go off and randomly spend money on items to try and see what might work, I did a good amount of research before I decided which product to get. May I add that I am so incredibly thankful for each and everyone that posts reviews, adds pictures and takes the time out of their day to help everyone else make purchasing decisions. You guys are amazing!!
So when I purchase something, my research beforehand has actually been so helpful that I haven’t had to return or exchange much in years. I also keep what I buy for years to come, until replacements are unavoidable, because spare parts aren’t made anymore.
I have long hair, more on the fine side. I colored it for many years, but in the recent two years went back to my natural color. I don’t brush my hair more than once or twice a week (how many of you just cringed? Yikes, I know, but I promise doing my hair for a week is on my bucket list and running my fingers through it is all it takes for my hair type to be manageable) and it’s been looking well enough after using sold shampoo exclusively and no other styling products for the past years.
A few years ago, I switched to bar shampoo from ethique. I first tried the Frizz Wrangler. It’s a simple block that comes in a cardboard box. No wrapping no waste, everything is compostable, or you can recycle it. I am so in love with this bar, no, I am in love with this line of products. Almost everything I’ve tried has worked really well for me and the only reason some things didn’t work for me was the scent, but that’s a complete personal preference, isn’t it!
I wet my hair, run the bar over my hair and then massage everything thoroughly. It lathers well, washed out quickly, and leaves no sticky residue behind. So overall, highly recommend this waste free line!
Besides using the ethique line of bar shampoos, I also use some other bars now that I discovered over the years. Some I purchase in Germany when I visit family, and some I find locally or online.
Most of them work really well, and I switch them up, based on what my hair needs during specific seasons or activities. Only one bar did not work for me, and that’s The Yellow Bird shampoo bar in Peppermint. It left a residue on my hair that made it feel unwashed, no matter how long I rinsed. But I am really strange when it comes to the feeling of products in my hair and don’t use hairspray, mousse, or other items ever. I simply prefer it washed and done. That said, the Yellow Bird Bar might just be your personal favorite. I love the ingredients, the packaging, and the scents. I have used some of their other products for years now.
