Clean Feel - Deodorant

As enticing as coconut oil and powder smeared under my armpit sounds, there are actually a plethora of options that can be used instead.

Over the years I tried many varieties of low waste deodorants. Here are some that worked well for me.

My at home, almost zero waste, favorite is to simply to remove my arm pit hair (I use an epilator I purchased 12 years ago) and then use none. I noticed that this works fine on low activity days, since I don’t have any odor development. With hair however, that’s an entirely different story. This is not an option for everyone and everywhere and really depends on your lifestyle and personality.

An actual deodorant that worked, but is not my favorite is a crystal. It’s a round, clear crystal you can use for years and years. You apply it to your clean armpits after wetting the crystal a bit. It’s slightly slippery and a bit sticky. It works somewhat during lower sweat days for me. I  think the slightly slippery and sticky aspect is what keeps me from using it more often.  I also wish it did not come with a little plastic cup to hold the rock in, but that was the purchase option years ago. I plan to repurpose it as a soap holder once the rock is all used up. 

One plastic free deodorant I love is from ethique. It’s they lavender and vanilla deodorant and it smells incredible. It’s a very mild scent, but it every so often catches my attention and always makes me smile. Some scents are just special to us, I guess. 

I really like the simplicity of Native’s plastic free deodorant. Smells lovely, they have lots of scent options, and it works even on really hot and sweaty days for me. I apply it after I shower, onto clean armpits. They last a long time for me, and the packaging can be composted afterwards.

These are just some of my favorites, but once you start looking for them, you can find so many more out there. Highly encourage you to take a look and try a lower waste option that works for you.
